Anyone else find that the most exhausting part of an engagement isn't the actual delivery, it's everything before it even starts? Scoping calls, data discovery, figuring out what the client actually has versus what they think they have. All of it unpaid, all of it necessary, and if you get it wrong the whole project is compromised before you write a single recommendation. I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Some consultants absorb it, some try to charge for it, some just get faster at doing it. How do you handle pre-engagement discovery?
