The HashtagPLUS Manifesto
The web was built to connect everyone. But somewhere along the way, it became thousands of walled gardens — each with its own algorithm, its own feed, its own rules about who gets seen and who doesn't.
A conversation happening on one platform is invisible on another.
A hashtag means something on one app and nothing on the next.
The same topic — #ClimateChange, #AIArt, #LocalNews, #RedSox — is fractured across dozens of disconnected silos, each owned by a corporation with a financial interest in keeping you inside.
This is not how the web was supposed to work.
No platform owns #music. No corporation owns #science. No algorithm gets to decide which #news you see. Hashtags are the web's shared language — a universal tagging system that predates any single platform and will outlast all of them.
HashtagPLUS treats hashtags as what they always should have been: a first-class citizen of the entire internet.
When something important happens in the world, people talk about it everywhere — on news sites, blogs, YouTube, forums, and every social platform. But those conversations are siloed. Invisible to each other.
HashtagPLUS is the glue. It connects those conversations through shared hashtags — so that a blog post, a video, a news article, and a community thread about the same topic are all findable in the same place, by the same hashtag.
The web is one conversation. We're just building the thread.
On most platforms, what you discover depends on who follows you, who you follow, and what an algorithm thinks will keep you scrolling.
HashtagPLUS flips this completely. You follow #topics, not people. Content rises because it's relevant to the hashtag — not because someone has a million followers or paid to promote it.
Any person. Any website. Any idea. Discoverable by hashtag.
A closed algorithm is a black box. It optimizes for engagement, for retention, for revenue — not for you.
An open hashtag feed is transparent. Every post is there because a human tagged it with that topic. You can see everything. You can sort it yourself. You can trust it.
HashtagPLUS will always default to open, chronological, human-curated feeds — powered by the community, not a model trained to maximize screen time.
You should be able to share something interesting with the world without handing over your name, your email, your location, and your behavioral profile to do it.
HashtagPLUS supports fully anonymous posting and commenting. Your identity is yours. Share what you want to share. Nothing more.
HashtagPLUS is, at its core, a place for real human thought, real human compassion, and real human dialogue. People connecting across the web around the topics they care about — not bots, not content farms, not AI-generated noise flooding the feed.
We use AI as a tool — to help surface content, generate hashtags, and understand what a page is about. But we will never allow AI to replace the human conversation that makes this platform worth being part of.
Every time AI is involved in creating or processing content on HashtagPLUS, it will be clearly and permanently labeled. You will always know what came from a person and what came from a machine. There is no mixing, no blurring, no ambiguity.
Bots and automated accounts that attempt to flood feeds with AI-generated posts will be removed. The community deserves to know it's talking to people — and we will protect that.
Not just tech people. Not just early adopters. Not just people who already know what "decentralized" means.
Your mom should be able to paste a news article and see what people are saying about it. A gamer should be able to follow #gaming and discover new games from reviews, forums, YouTube videos, and fan sites — in one place. A music fan should be able to follow #hiphop or #indierock and surface new artists, albums, and reviews from every corner of the web.
HashtagPLUS is for everyone who uses the web.
If your work is discovered on the open web and pulled into HashtagPLUS, that does not make it ours. It stays yours.
We may create a virtual author profile so people can find your work by hashtag, but the real creator always has the right to step forward and claim that profile. If you can prove ownership from a page you control, HashtagPLUS will merge that virtual identity into your real account so you can manage how your work is represented here.
That claim process is moderated by humans, because attribution matters. We would rather be careful than careless with someone's name, reputation, or authorship.
Your content remains yours. Your authorship remains yours. Your identity is not something a platform gets to take away.
We believe a platform is only as trustworthy as its incentives. So here's ours, plainly:
Anyone can pay to boost a post so it reaches more people within a relevant #topic feed. But every boosted post is clearly and permanently labeled as promoted content. No native ads disguised as organic posts. No hidden placements. If someone paid to get in front of you, you will always know it.
If you'd rather not see boosted posts at all, become a supporting member. Paid members enjoy a completely ad-free experience. That's the deal — no tricks, no fine print.
HashtagPLUS will share revenue with the people who make it worth coming back to. Creators, curators, and community builders who consistently bring great content will receive a share of the revenue their contributions help generate. The more value you bring, the more comes back to you.
Imagine a world where every piece of content on the internet — every news article, every blog post, every video, every product page, every community thread — is tagged with the topics it's about.
Imagine following #healthcare and seeing content from medical journals, patient communities, news outlets, and advocacy groups — all in one place.
Imagine a #LocalNews feed that pulls in content from every local newspaper, blog, and community site in your area.
Imagine #AI surfacing not just what's trending on one platform, but the full, rich conversation happening across the entire web.
That is the HashtagPLUS vision. A universal hashtag layer on top of the whole internet — open, decentralized, and owned by no one but everyone.
HashtagPLUS is built for the open web. It is not owned by a venture fund, an advertising network, or a platform with an incentive to trap you.
It is built for the community and sustained by the value the community creates.
Hashtag the web. #Tag your world. #HashtagPLUS
