I recently shot outdoors with my AR-15 for the first time (I’m the one on the right), and I quickly realized that my muzzle brake is both very effective and very obnoxious. You can clearly see the blast hitting the shooter on my left. He’s my cousin, so no hard feelings. It was a shooting event, and while I was chatting with people, more than one person joked about how strong the blast from my rifle was. So now I’m curious: would you give up some of the effectiveness of your muzzle brake for the comfort of the people around you and switch to a blast can, or would you just make sure to shoot a little farther away from everyone else? That said, I’m probably not going to change anything anytime soon. I saw that SureFire and Strike Industries make some nice options, but they aren’t compatible with my current brake, and replacing the brake plus buying a blast can would cost €400+. Still, I’d be interested to hear what other people think is the right call here.…
