Grieving family say illicit liquor dens operate brazenly in Phugewadi area, cops say they keep taking action

At least 10 persons from Phugewadi-Dapodi areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad and four from Hadapsar area in Pune city died by consuming spurious liquor between May 26 and May 28.

Most of the victims had reportedly complained of irritation of eyes, blindness, stomach pain, vomiting and other symptoms before death.

Their families were upset, angry and helpless as the deceased had died consuming hooch sold locally at Pandhare Mala, a slum-like settlement, and an illegal liquor centre allegedly operating near Mantri Market in Hadapsar.

At least four other victims of Phugewadi-Dapodi are undergoing treatment at the Medipoint Hospital, Aundh, and YCM Hospital, Pimpri, stated a press release issued on Friday.
