DETROIT — Ezequiel Duran did not anticipate having to play right field on Friday against the Detroit Tigers. The Texas Rangers second baseman moved to right field after Brandon Nimmo was removed for the game as a precaution for a recurrence of right hamstring tightness. Josh Smith came in to play second base. In the seventh inning, Duran made what ended up being a game-saving catch. He sprinted to his left to run down a fly ball by Detroit’s Kerry Carpenter. A hit that would have meant extra bases instead turned into a highlight reel catch for Duran. Here’s a replay of the Ezequiel Duran catch in the seventh.
