Ride-hailing sticker shock, taxi surcharges on tap for EDC this weekend

Electric Daisy Carnival attendees should expect surge pricing with ride hailing companies and surge charges from taxicabs this weekend while traveling to and from Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With over 500,000 fans expected to attend the annual electric dance music festival, rides to and from the event will be at a premium — and demand a premium price. Ride hailing services will also be charging more throughout the Las Vegas Valley during the weekend, especially in the resort corridor and downtown during peak hours of EDC, due to the increased demand for rides tied to the event. EDC is set to take place Friday through Sunday (and into Monday morning), between 5 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Friday and between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. With the increased demand, taxi companies add surcharges of $40 to $60 for EDC rides, according to Teri Williams, spokeswoman for the Nevada Taxicab and Transportation Authority.
