Rock stars are getting high to keep a Queenstown highway safe.
The abseiling teams are working at Nevis Bluff as abseilers to release rock that has become loose and poses a risk to users of SH6 between Cromwell and Queenstown.
A video released today NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi shows one of the team dislodging a hefty piece of rock which tumbles down the steep slope.
Traffic is being stopped in both directions periodically while the work happens on weekdays between 8am and 5pm.
This is the first week of the rock control work and is it is on target at this stage for completion within three weeks, an NZTA spokesman said.
