Calcutta High Court news: Comparing the case to a struggle between the proverbs “love is blind” and “all is fair in love and war,” the Calcutta High Court has convicted a male police constable for allegedly raping a colleague on the false promise of marriage. Justices Arijit Banerjee and Apurba Sinha Ray expressed concern that if a woman police constable herself is subjected to such “humiliation within the force”, the “plight” of an ordinary woman becomes even more alarming, stressing the need for “zero tolerance” towards crimes against women.  The high court, on April 23, observed that the lady police constable was hospitalised with a “blood-stained” uniform, not because of a “battle with criminals”, but due to an alleged incident “entirely foreign to the values of the force”.…
