A longtime Manitou Springs hotel reopens this week with a new name and a distinctive new look. Situated at the intersection of Manitou Avenue and Crystal Park Road, the former Manitou Cog Hotel now has a stark matte black all over. Its new name: Outrider. Owners Connor Gatlin and Jordan Malara said they chose the name as a callback to Colorado’s frontier history, where a lone rider was tasked with scouting ahead of settlers expanding west. “We want to be a premier destination, a premier lodging place, and we noticed there’s not much around here, so we wanted to be at the forefront of that,” said Malara, a Space Force veteran. “Hopefully, the development we do here encourages the local community to continue to grow and to build and to want to invest more into the community.” The changes they brought include a focus on landscaping and refreshing and modernizing the interior.…
