Probate question (next of kin) - Maine/Florida Hello! Location: Maine and Florida. My 79 y.o. father passed leaving me nothing in his will, and everything to his former girlfriend. She is also the executor of the will. I am his only child, I am an adult and next of kin. A sheriff's deputy came to my home in Maine and notified me of his death. The deputy put me in contact with a victim's advocate in Florida, where my father died of natural causes, alone, at home. The victim's advocate gave me the name of the funeral home and recommended I request copies of the death certificate and provide them to social security. I have not seen my father in 12 years. That victim's advocate gave me the name of the funeral home where my father will be cremated. I signed the paperwork permitting them to cremate him and print off death certificates. The funeral home advised that he had prepaid for an urn, cremation, medical examiners' fee and death certificates, so all I had to do was agree to sign the paperwork.…
