The powerful wave was caused by a landslide, which scientists have directly attributed to global warming, as retreating glaciers left the mountain's rock face unsupported. Despite its immense power, which violently stripped vegetation from the fjord's steep rock walls, no injuries were reported as the event occurred at 5.30 am when no vessels were present.
