Published 11:04 am Thursday, May 7, 2026 A Warm Springs woman died after being hit by a car Tuesday around 10:30 p.m. while walking in the travel lane on Highway 97 in Wasco County, about 30 miles north of Madras. A fully-loaded blue Peterbilt semi-truck with trailer, driven by Larry Lorenz of Spokane, Wash., was traveling south down Highway 97 near Bake Oven Road when it hit Lutah Avis Wallulatum, a 42-year-old woman from Warm Springs. Immediately after, Wallulatum was hit by a second car traveling north. She is believed to have been walking along the highway after her vehicle broke down a short distance away. Wallulatum was pronounced dead at the scene. Lorenz was reportedly not injured and collaborated with the investigation. Oregon State Police was assisted by South Wasco County EMS, Wasco County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation. Investigators are seeking information from witnesses or anyone who may have been traveling in the area at the time.…
