The “ Rooster ” finale coincides with the end of Ludlow College’s fall semester, which inspires Greg Russo ( Steve Carell ) to take one last risk with the dean of faculty – showing her the galley of his new book. We’re not meant to view this as a conversation between a visiting teacher and a top administrator but as a vulnerable moment between Greg and his good, possibly best, friend Dylan Shepard ( Danielle Deadwyler ). They began the season as peers, of sorts; Dylan is an English professor at Ludlow, while Greg never went to college. Dylan is a poet, while Greg is a famous author. Greg’s class, “The Art of the Page Turner,” fell into his lap, and so did Dylan’s role as interim dean of faculty.…
