The Bienal de São Paulo has announced Amanda Carneiro and Raphael Fonseca as the chief curators of its 37th edition, which will open in the fall of 2027. The selection of two Brazilians to helm Latin America’s biggest art event marks a return to championing local perspectives after the success of Cameroonian curator Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung ‘s exhibition last year. The Fundação Bienal de São Paulo’s president, Andrea Pinheiro , explained the move was born of “a clear conviction: that there exists, in Brazil, a curatorial generation with the talent, experience, and vision necessary to keep the Bienal de São Paulo at the center of the artistic debate of our time.” A São Paulo native, Carneiro cut her teeth on the international biennial circuit by assisting Adriano Pedrosa as an artistic organizer on his “Foreigners Everywhere” main exhibition for the Venice Biennale in 2024.…
