Pony Club member off to China

Central Southland Pony Club member Caitlin Cook will combine international travel with one of her favourite pastimes. The 15-year-old is part of a New Zealand Pony Club team which will take part in an international exchange to China. The exchange will take place from May 27 to June 8 in the cities of Fuzhou and Zhangzhou as well as surrounding regions in southeast China. Riders will take part in showjumping, alongside a cultural programme including visits to historic regions and Unesco World Heritage sites. Caitlin said she applied for the trip because she thought it would be a good experience to find out how the Chinese ran their horse events. The riders take their own riding helmets and clothing but will select their horses from those available to them there. It would be a good opportunity to learn how to adapt to riding different horses, Caitlin said. “Riding different horses is good for your seat and how you ride.” Looking forward to meeting new people, she was surprised to be accepted for the trip.…
