I see people talking about water waste whenever a new data center is going to be built. I don't understand where all the water is getting wasted. From my understanding a chilled water system is filled once and circulates that water between the chiller and the cooling tower. Some water is lost to evaporation so a float sensor in the cooling tower tops it up if necessary. But is it really that massive of an amount? I know there's tons of evaporation clouds constantly coming off the top of apartment building cooling towers all over cities in the swing season so what is the difference?
