I had some recent chimney work done by a seemingly reputable company and the chimney contractors stapled a tarp down into our shingles and left several staples behind. I know a roofer who says that this is a significant problem, as it introduces holes in the shingles. The contractors of course say that it’s no big deal and they do it all the time without issue (I don’t know how they track whether it’s an issue down the road). They did claim that the staples are shallow and not fully penetrating the shingle. The contractors said that all they could do to address it apart removing the staples (which they’ve now done) would be to paint sealant over the surrounding area which would be unsightly and unnecessary. I’m inclined to believe the roofer here, but does anyone have any other insight to offer? Is this really a common practice, and even if it is, does it post a significant problem? And what would be an appropriate solution if it does? submitted by /u/corduroy_Joy [link] [comments]
