Most drummers hit a wall with double stroke rolls, I know I did. I went through this period where they felt so weak and sounded so inconsistent. My drum teacher at university showed me a version of push/pull technique that I've never seen taught anywhere else with the same level of depth. I feel like its easy to hear about a specific technique, go and look it up and get a surface level understanding of it. But to actually understand the cues that make it work and apply it to a point where you can FEEL the difference it makes, takes time. When you learn it properly, push/pull builds power from the arm instead of the wrist/fingers for smoother strokes, better consistency, doubles that actually feel strong. I've broken down what I think is the best way to have nice strong, clean doubles in a short video that shows exactly what cues to look for at each stage of the stroke.
