A terrible economy can recover, offshoring was still a problem 10 years ago when the CS market was much better than it is now, the only difference between then and now is the existence of modern AI to the public. Companies are investing billions in AI and it's part of the reason for mass layoffs. I see people on this sub not too concerned about the power of AI when it comes to replacing jobs and I don't understand why. The technology itself seems to be progressing and is already able to do entry-level work. In my opinion I see it as the biggest potential threat because all the other current problems causing the terrible tech market can be fixed but AI itself is a new thing we haven't been through before and is currently in the experimental phase and even then it's already changed on how SWE is done.…
