The Mandalorian and Grogu is the first Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker (and the less said about that one, the better). In the interim years, the Star Wars franchise has existed exclusively as a series of streaming television series on Disney+, which kicked off with The Mandalorian . Some of these streaming shows are excellent ( Andor ), others are less so ( Ahsoka ), but either way, the return of Star Wars is cause for celebration. There’s just one thing: It’s a film that’s sort of a sequel/continuation of three seasons of a television show. It also has to find a way to appeal to both fans of that series and new viewers who love the thrills and spectacle of a Star Wars movie.
