A man charged in the 2016 murder of a 23-year-old hiker near a lake in Oklahoma was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Alamosa on Tuesday, according to news release by the agency.

Charles Shamblin, 35, was released in 2017 due to a lack of evidence in the case, but the authorities obtained a warrant Tuesday after the victim’s body was discovered in 2024 and identified in 2025. He was one of three men charged in connection with the homicide, the release states.

The Marshals along with members of the police and Sheriff’s Office apprehended Shamblin at an apartment complex in Alamosa, according to the release.

The authorities booked Shamblin into the Alamosa County jail.

Alamosa, the seat of Alamosa County, is about 164 miles south of Colorado Springs.
