Henderson residents are about to lose approximately $21 million a year in park funding if Question 1 is not approved. This measure renews an existing property tax that has been in place for nearly 30 years. It costs 12 cents per $100 of assessed value and funds about 40 percent of Henderson’s parks and recreation budget. If you vote “no,” you still pay the tax. The difference is where the money goes. Instead of staying in Henderson, it is sent to the county and used elsewhere. A “yes” vote keeps that funding here for the next 30 years. A “no” vote removes nearly half of the funding that supports our parks, trails and recreation programs. That funding is why Henderson has 77 parks, 300 miles of trails, 105 athletic fields and eight recreation centers. It is why families have places to gather, kids have safe places to play and neighborhoods stay active and connected.
