CMV: American feminists are more comfortable with traditional Muslim women then they are traditional Christian women. It’s part of a larger trend in which open expressions of faith, submission to god and endorsement of conservative family values, are tolerated from Muslim women (or at the very least, not attacked) while the reverse is far from true. More broadly, feminists will make the argument (with zero irony) that NGO’s or humanitarian aid groups need to tailor their advocacy for women’s rights to the sensibilities of the population. “Don’t try and force your liberal values down their throats. That’s just another form of racist imperialism. *You’ve got to meet them where they are*.” That seeps down, in a more diluted form, to the way self-proclaimed radical feminists conduct themselves on an individual level.
