Tomoyuki Sugano, Brett Sullivan set tone in Rockies’ rout of Reds

CINCINNATI — Colorado’s starting battery provided all the energy needed to power past Cincinnati on Wednesday night. Starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano scattered four hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings and catcher Brett Sullivan roped a three-run first-inning double to get the Rockies on their way to a 13-2 victory over the Reds at Great American Ball Park. The margin of victory was the largest for Colorado on the road since downing the Houston Astros 19-3 on Sept. 25, 2011. Sullivan’s double quickly set the tone for the Rockies after a 1-for-11 performance on Tuesday night with runners in scoring position. It also helped secure a winning road trip for the Rockies through New York and Cincinnati, going 4-1 in the first five games of the road trip and lifting Colorado to an overall 14-17 mark. “You don’t expect these guys to repeat a negative performance.
