Photo: Jeff Merrick The Typeframe PS-85 is a cyberdeck crafted by Jeff Merrick, inspired by Epson portable computers and the design language of 1979 science fiction-horror classic Alien . In the movie, the MU/TH/UR computer had its own room; here's a terminal to ask it desperate questions and receive unhelpful answers . When Weyland-Yutani approached us to design the Typeframe PS-85, we said, "How can we refuse?" They replied, "You can't. You've been acquired in a hostile takeover." So we got to work on a portable, rugged terminal built for long-haul ship captains and officers who can't afford to stay tethered to the bridge. You can build your own, of course! You'll need a 3D printer, a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W , a 40% keyboard, and a few other bits and bobs. Those mysterious keycaps are by Signature Plastics and implement Semiotic Standard , designed by Rob Cobb to give Alien's corporate future some delicious isomorphic dogfood.…
