Hey everyone, I’m a MechE undergrad, and my partner and I are working on a project to build high-performance, FOC-controlled QDD actuators. We’re trying to solve the "missing middle"—bridging the gap between $500+ industrial (like CubeMars/Unitree) and cheap hobby servos that have high backlash and no torque control. To keep the cost low and the reliability high, I wanted to see what people think of a standardized set of actuator sizes rather than everyone making their own. But before we try to build anything super polished, I wanted to get a sanity check from people actually building arms, quadrupeds, or exoskeletons: If we offered standard outer dimensions—for example: Small: ~50mm OD x 20mm width Medium: ~70mm OD x 25mm width Large: ~90mm OD x 30mm width Would standard sizes like these have fit into the joints of your last custom build? Or are your packaging constraints usually so tight that standardizing sizes is an absolute dealbreaker for you?…
