It was a successful weekend for the travelling teams in the Southern Region Rugby competition, with all four away sides recording victories. Clinton celebrated their 140th jubilee with a full day of age-grade rugby and community festivities, culminating in the Bill Mitchell Memorial Shield clash between Clinton and Owaka. The visitors emerged with a 32-12 win after controlling much of the contest. Playing into the wind in the first half, Owaka established early pressure and used a dominant set-piece to dictate territory and possession. However, handling errors and poor decision-making prevented them from fully capitalising, with the visitors leading only 17-7 at halftime. The second half followed a similar pattern, as Owaka scored early but failed to consistently apply pressure through lapses in intensity and individual play close to the line.
