It was a successful weekend for the travelling teams in the Southern Region Rugby competition, with all four away sides recording victories. Clinton celebrated their 140th jubilee with a full day of age-grade rugby and community festivities, culminating in the Bill Mitchell Memorial Shield clash between Clinton and Owaka. The visitors emerged with a 32-12 win after controlling much of the contest. Playing into the wind in the first half, Owaka established early pressure and used a dominant set-piece to dictate territory and possession. However, handling errors and poor decision-making prevented them from fully capitalising, with the visitors leading only 17-7 at halftime. The second half followed a similar pattern, as Owaka scored early but failed to consistently apply pressure through lapses in intensity and individual play close to the line. Clinton flanker Morgan Greer stood out in his 50th match for the club, while halfback George Anderson impressed throughout.…
