Published 12:08 pm Wednesday, April 29, 2026 Many golfers are probably hoping that the final weeks of the high school season are filled with sunny and warm days, just in time for the state’s most important tournaments. But if the forecast calls for chilly conditions, that would be quite alright for Silas Waller. There is not much crossover between hockey, the sport the Bend High senior will play after high school, and golf, the sport in which he is currently thriving this spring. But there is one. “Physically, the two sports are the polar opposites,” Waller said. “But mentally, I feel like hockey has really helped me out. Especially when it is cold outside, hockey has helped me be tough and be mentally resilient.” Waller, who also plays soccer for the Lava Bears, has been skating since he could walk. He plays for the Cascade Select 18U AA team, part of the Bend Rapids Youth Hockey Club, and was a member of the team that played in the USA Hockey Nationals in March.…
