Overlooked for decades, the Cold War-era site was unearthed last month by archaeologists with English Heritage , a charity that manages historic sites in the country. The newly discovered bunker was one of roughly 1,500 underground observation posts set up across Great Britain at the peak of the Cold War. The United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organization (UKWMO) established the sites to provide protection to Royal Observer Corps (ROC) volunteers tasked with recording explosions in and around the country in the case of a nuclear bomb attack.…
