After work drinks ended badly for a Dunedin man when he lost control of his car and wrapped it around a power pole. The 32-year-old was heading home on Hillside Rd last night when his car spun out in wet conditions at the Forbury Rd roundabout. After telling police he'd had “after work drinks”, he underwent breath testing procedures, Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said. He recorded a breath alcohol reading of 805mcgs, three times over the legal limit. The man was uninjured and his vehicle was towed from the scene He was charged with excess breath alcohol and careless driving and his license was suspended for 28 days. Police also conducted three impairment checkpoints yesterday, testing 898 drivers with only one over the legal limit. The checkpoints took place in Bank St, King Edward St, and Musselburgh Rise. A 39-year-old woman failed her passive breath test at the Bank St checkpoint. Her breath screening test showed over 400mcgs, Sgt Lee said. The woman told police she had drunk one and a half pints.…
