Invercargill choir marks 50 years

The Star Invercargill’s A Capella Singers choir will celebrate its 50th anniversary at King’s Birthday weekend. The event, to be held on May 30-31, will feature a gala concert on Saturday night and a celebration lunch for current and former choir members on Sunday, with guest speaker Ron James — the choir’s founder. In a statement, celebration organisers said over the years, choir members had moved far and wide from Invercargill. While they had contact details for quite a few former members, they were trying hard to contact the many others for whom they did not have information. The aim was to give these people ‘‘the option of joining us for an enjoyable trip down memory lane with friends and familiar music from over the years’’. A highlight of the concert will be a performance of Vivaldi’s  Gloria  with the Invercargill Symphonia and guest soprano soloist Rebecca Ryan.…
