Former Broncos star safety Justin Simmons is officially retiring from the NFL.

Simmons, 32, played for Denver from 2016-23 and made two Pro Bowls. He spent 2024 with the Atlanta Falcons before being inactive in 2025.

The Broncos announced Wednesday that Simmons will retire with the team. That would entail signing a one-day contract.

“Being a Denver Bronco was more than just a team,” Simmons told the Broncos’ website. “It was my heart, my home and my story.”

Simmons was selected by Denver in the third round of the 2016 out of Boston College. He made Pro Bowls for the Broncos in 2020 and 2023 and had 30 of his 32 career NFL receptions for them.

Simmons timed his retirement announcement for exactly 10 days after his April 29, 2016, draft selection.
