First time watcher of TOS (starting here because I want a lot of the Spock and Kirk context shown in TOS before going into TNG) and wow, this episode is fascinating! Charlie reminds me of a lot of guys I've met IRL, to the point of being a little unnerving in certain scenes due to how similar certain behaviors were, especially within the context of his interactions with the women on the enterprise. I can't fully capture my thoughts on all this, mostly given the fact that I am posting this shortly after watching and they haven't fully settled yet, but it was fascinating seeing a character who for all intents and purposes would probably fit in a show put out in 2026 show up 40 years before. (Edit: 60 years. Was thinking of a separate 80s sci fi at the time of writing, and mixed up my decades in the process) Hope this episode helped a few would-be Charlie's grow out of it at the time it aired, or even past that, because it has a lot of interesting things to say.…
