A newly elected Reform councillor has sparked controversy just days after his election victory with remarks concerning “non white persons" in a public park. Ken Tranter, who secured a seat as a Hampshire County Councillor for Aldershot South, faced immediate condemnation for what critics have labelled “racist rhetoric". Following his win on 7 May, Mr Tranter said he intended to demand police action regarding “non white persons taking over the Municipal Gardens and the strong pervading smell of cannabis". Mr Tranter is an Army veteran who served for 29 years, reaching the rank of Warrant Officer. He previously served as Mayor of Dover between 2005 and 2006.
