The original charters were given out by historical inception of race team entity, then numerical. 19 teams were awarded charters, they are 15 teams with charters today

Charters were awarded to teams who were FT in 2013-2015

62 got a charter because they brought the 36 TBR owner points, and despite 16 DNQ they got one

21 Woods, 12 Penske, 19 JGR, and 41 Haas were not awarded one for not being FT from 13-15

98 Premium didn’t get one becuase they skipped Phoenix 2013
