Passengers evacuate via emergency slides after Turkish Airlines plane catches fire on landing in Kathmandu

00:38

Turkish Airlines passengers evacuated a plane using emergency slides after the jet caught fire while landing at Nepal's main airport on Monday (11 May).

The Airbus 330, with 277 passengers on board, landed at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport from Istanbul with fire and smoke on the right landing gear.

Emergency crew responded and controlled the fire, and passengers were safely evacuated, airport officials said.

No injuries were reported, but the airport was forced to shut down.

Several planes bound for Kathmandu were put on hold while officials investigated and attempted to clear the only runway available at the airport.
