A while back I set up a NAS at home and wanted to repurpose an old Android tablet as a photo frame that would pull directly from it. Seemed simple enough. What I found on the Play Store was either apps that couldn't talk to SMB shares at all, or ones that paywalled basic functionality behind monthly subscriptions, or worse β interrupted the slideshow itself with ads. So after enough frustration I just built it. It's called Fravora and it's been running on my own tablet 24/7 for a while now. The things I specifically cared about when building it: All source types available on the free tier β SMB/NAS, local folders, and cloud are all supported for free. You get one of each, which is enough to get started without paying anything. No interrupted slideshow β ever. If you want to support development there's an optional rewarded ad for temporary Pro access, but your photos keep playing regardless. Photos never leave your home β credentials are stored encrypted locally, nothing is uploaded anywhere.β¦
