Michael Carrick has said he is “over the moon” that Kobbie Mainoo has committed his future to Manchester United and believes the midfielder epitomises the club. Mainoo signed a new five-year contract on Thursday, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2031. But United risked losing the midfielder until Carrick returned in January, when Mainoo had still not started a league game this season. The England international has been a key part in their subsequent revival and Carrick thinks Mainoo maintains United’s traditions of bringing through gifted young players.
