Off the back of a burst of TikTok virality , Oyamada has signed to Eat Your Own Ears and released a cover of a Japanese Balearic classic: Yosui Inoue’s 1990 song “Yumenemi” (or “Yume Ne Mi”). Oyamada’s last releases came in 2024: the Arto Lindsay-assisted EP Bad Advice/Mind Train and the ambient album Ethereal Essence . Before that, he released the 2023 LP Dream in Dream , which followed a bizarre scandal that prompted his exit from the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony, after an old interview was unearthed in which he apologized for bullying people with disabilities as a child.
