Hi ! I recently did some research to understand the difference between systematics and taxonomy. I understand that systematics is responsible for establishing a phylogenetic tree based on various criteria to account for the degree of relatedness between species, and that taxonomy is responsible for creating groups based on this tree. But one question keeps nagging at me: isn't the tree already a classification that groups species? What's left to do in taxonomy besides assigning names? submitted by /u/schtroumpfs_farceur [link] [comments]
