After checking in and being escorted with other guests to the meeting room in the HHS offices, I found a seat near the front of the room. Coffee in hand, I chatted with those in the room and found a strong bench of personal health apps, wearable device makers, and data access companies. Notably missing from the meeting were any EHR vendors, and as the meeting got underway, the reason was obvious. The day before, HHS issued a news release detailing plans to increase manpower working on information blocking complaints, with both HHS and OIG noting their intent to enforce these rules aggressively. Chatter in the room circled around if they’d actually hold information blocking actions accountable, with every person I saw sharing at least one story of delays or rejections to access reasonable healthcare data.…
