‘Best thing I’ve ever done’: Nevada veteran calls Honor Flight the experience of a lifetime

“Everyone should do it. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life.” This is what 90-year-old Pahrump resident and Korean War veteran Mahlon Broadwater had to say after taking a trip to Washington, D.C. last month, complete with tours of the memorials that have been created in recognition of those who have worn the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces. Escorted by his son-in-law, Donald Western, Broadwater was able to visit these memorials and it was something he will never forget. And it was all made possible by Honor Flight of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving this experience to those who served in World War II, the Korean War or the Vietnam War. “I’ve known about the Honor Flight for years and a friend of mine went about five or six years back and he said, that’s it – what an experience,” Broadwater told the Pahrump Valley Times.…
