The publication I usually freelance for turned down my pitch, so I was wondering if there's any industry/culture publications I should pitch to as well. Otherwise, I'd pitch to another local outlet. My portfolio is very lean, as I've only just started freelancing, and I don't have any features under my belt. I've got a few articles and a journalism degree. This is a rough outline of my angle/pitch with some details omitted: One of, if not the most well-regarded tattoo shops in my city is closing after decades of operation. The shop was founded just before tattoos exploded in popularity and went mainstream, with the boom peaking a few years ago when a Pew Research study found that a third of US adults had at least one tattoo. There hasn't been much recent data since then, and the co-owners and artists at the shop have told me they've noticed a shift in recent years from the traditional business model to a newer one.…
