Henry McMaster is rumored to be eyeing a special session to pressure his fellow Republicans in the state legislature to adopt a congressional map that would endanger Rep. Jim Clyburn’s (D-SC) seat. South Carolina’s legislature, which tanked the redistricting effort on Tuesday, is currently in session until the end of the week, so he would have to push for one after it adjourns. “I urge the General Assembly to finish its work according to the U.S. and South Carolina constitutions and the best interests of the people,” McMaster said in a statement.
