I want to add a railing for these steps, something fairly robust. Anybody have a recommendation as to where/what to get for the railing itself? Specifically, I want to anchor the railing in the concrete sidewalk to the left of the steps. I don't want to mess with the (125 year old) bricks if I can possibly avoid it. Most of what I can find in google/the big box stores has the posts of the railing anchoring in the steps themselves. I guess I'd need an extra tall post for the upper end, is that doable? I'm wondering if I'm going to have to make (or have fabricated) something out of tube steel... I assume that to install the railing posts, I just need to use masonry bits, perhaps a hammer drill (rather than a regular drill), and use something like Tapcons or Red Heads to anchor into the concrete? Or is there something trickier involved? Will l need/want something to protect the screws going into the sidewalk from rain/water, and if so, what?…
