Is it okay to reach out to a contact at a company after a rejection? This is sort of odd so I’m not sure what the etiquette is here. I’m looking for a job and an old colleague, let’s call him Chris, shared a job post that is literally a perfect fit for what I’ve been looking for and is heavily aligned with my experience. Chris mentioned that he actually worked with the hiring manager, “Maggie,” years ago at another company and offered to make an introduction. Of course I said yes. Before the intro even came in, I applied on the company’s website. A few hours later Chris added me to a group chat on LinkedIn with Maggie. He introduced us, explained that the role she’s hiring for is right up my alley. Maggie was friendly and said she’d connect with recruiting to schedule a screening call with me. Then 24 hours later I receive a canned “thanks but no thanks, we’ve had so many qualified applicants” email.…
