Published 12:00 pm Thursday, April 30, 2026 REDMOND — Many were saying that the swirly winds at Redmond High Wednesday afternoon were caused by Carter Wachs running at a blazing speed around the track. Others noted that the wind was caused by a collective sigh of relief from all the 400-meter runners in Oregon. But anyone with eyes can see that Wachs is running like the wind this spring. In the first 400 Wachs has raced since his freshman season, the junior sprinter finished in 49.49 seconds, which is the fastest time in the Intermountain Conference and second fastest 5A time of the season. “Never again,” said the junior, still trying to catch his breath minutes after his sprint around the track. “Never again am I running that.” Those racing in the 100 and 200 aren’t as lucky and will have some catching up to do if they want to dethrone 5A’s fastest man. The reigning 100 state champion has not slowed down this season.…
