Members of the Taieri Recreational Tramping Club recently celebrated a milestone in the life of its oldest member.
Lester Harvey recently turned 95 and the club sang Happy Birthday to him before they headed off from Memorial Park to Waitati for a combined walk.
Club member Jill Dodd said Mr Harvey had been a very busy "community oriented" member of Mosgiel throughout his working life.
Over the years the club acknowledged any of its members’ 90th birthdays so this was an extension of the club’s activities, Ms Dodd said.
A keen baker, Mr Harvey made a birthday cake and Afghan biscuits for the occasion to share with the club.
Mr Harvey had been out walking the hills at Lee Stream before the group’s Christmas luncheon in December.
On the morning of the tramp he arrived on his mobility scooter.
He still drove his car but had given up riding his push bike, Ms Dodd said.
