Eamonn McCormack/Variety Shawn Levy is set to direct the original sci-fi movie “Somewhere Out There” for Netflix. The streamer picked up the spec script written by Max Taxe in a bidding war. Levy will also produce the film under his 21 Laps banner along with the company’s Dan Levine. The story falls in the emotional vein of “Arrival” and “The Adam Project,” and concerns a grieving father who, after losing his wife, sends a message out into the stars…and something out there starts to talk back. Levy has recently wrapped production on “ Star Wars: Starfighter ” starring Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth and Aaron Pierre. The film will hit theaters on May 28, 2027. Popular on Variety Levy’s projects have included “Stranger Things” and “All the Light We Cannot See.” The Levy-directed film “Deadpool & Wolverine” generated $1.086 billion at the global box office and is the highest grossing R-rated movie in history.…
