The trees aren't struggling — they look completely at home, roots anchored in mortar, branches spreading out like they own the place. Each building looks like it belongs in a fantasy novel. The trees don't damage the structures so much as claim them — they add an undeniable whimsy that no architect could have planned. I'm glad the people who own these buildings let the trees do their thing instead of trying to remove them. A lot of homeowners would have called an arborist the moment a root touched the foundation. These folks just let it ride. I wish my house could grow a tree like some of these buildings. Trees are relentless — give them a crack, a seam, or a half-inch gap in brick, and they will take it. What gets me is how few of these homeowners seem to have fought back.…
